Just to keep things interesting...

We spent the good part of yesterday in the ER with Matthias. Saturday night, after being "inspired" by a survival show, he decided to scale a doorway. He made it to the top hanging by his finger tips with his feet stretched out on the opposite wall... and then he fell down hard on his foot. Sigh, BOYS! We put arnica gel on it & it never swelled/bruised that evening but by Sunday afternoon he was crying if he put weight on it & his foot had become swollen and bruised.

After 9 different people coming in the room to ask what happened (and one nurse making annoying comments about home education- I just smiled & bit my tongue- be proud of me!) & an x-ray, we discovered Matthias fractured a metatarsal in his left foot. Our first child to break a bone! (I broke my toe & had surgery when Jonathan was a baby.)

They gave him a boot to help keep his foot still- yeah, that's going to be a blast to try to accomplish over the next several weeks! The boot is HUGE on him but it was the smallest they had. We will follow up with an orthopedic doctor. Oh, joy. MORE doctor appointments. Because things we're dull around here as we wait for Baby to come! ;)

We're grateful the injury wasn't worse & that Matthias is feeling better as he hobbles around with this boot. It's still painful when medication were off. I'm hoping the orthopedic doctor will cast his foot to help keep it more stable- the boot does an okay job but not an awesome one.
