Read-Aloud Thursday: March 10, 2011

I've made a concentrated effort lately to get back to reading more picture books to our littlest of littles. Still a big fan of reading above your child's level but they also need that cuddling time w/ Mama enjoy family favorites. So, this week I thought I would share some of our favorite picture books that we've been reading lately (too many favorites to list in one post- I'll limit myself to recent reading). You might know most of them but hopefully you'll be encouraged to re-read those classics with your littles (or not so littles). Enjoy!

"Momma, Will You?" by Dori Chaconas. Auntie Devon gave this one to our children & it's become a favorite for it's verse & pictures. Plus, it features an Ergo & raw milk! ;) Cool!

"Carousel, Round and Round" by Kay Sproat Chorao. Our children adore carousels- there is just something special about them! (Minus the annoying music. Mama's thoughts.) We've owned this book ever since Patricia was a baby & all of the children still enjoy the rhyming verse.

"The Napping House" by Audrey Woods. Just about everyone can say this one from memory & yet, we grab it almost every day to read. :)

"Corduroy" by Don Freeman. Really, can anything get better than a story about a bear finding a friend? Adorable.

"Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel" by Virginia Lee Burton. Somehow, we do not own any of her books but we are always borrowing them from the library. These are so good- the boys like Mike Mulligan the best. The story about the Little House will make you cry.

Another favorite that I need to buy are the Little House First Reader books. We enjoy the chapter books too but the illustrations in these picture books are so good! (Which is really important to me.)
