Focusing on Relationships

Kendra of Preschoolers and Peace (an excellent blog for anyone with littles!) has been posting a series about focusing on Jesus in Christmas. Yesterday's post really hit home- but not just for Christmas, for EVERYDAY LIVING. Especially for ME RIGHT NOW after having a baby.

In her post, Kendra reminds us to focus on relationships vs stuff vs getting things done. Here's a quote:

Simple. Relaxed. Joyful. Relationships.

That's what I want, too, but I'm not very good at the relationships thing. I'm really good at to-do lists and working hard and getting stuff done. While that stuff has to be done (well, some of it has to be done), I know that Jesus would be beckoning us all to the living room to sit and talk and fellowship face to face. He wouldn't want me sitting there wishing I was in the next room getting it cleaned up.

OUCH! I'm not very good a the relationship thing either. I've felt that anxious feeling a few times this week- anxious to get back to our schedule, to clean & organize, to do more instead of resting. By God's grace, I've fought back those feelings & turned my heart back to more important things- cuddling with little Miss Emily, enjoying a picture book with my littles, knitting with Patricia, listening and observing my boy's play. Everything else can wait. These are precious, fleeting times!

I was once told years that are well gone by: 'enjoy your children, you will turn around and they are gone.'
I find myself that this is so true.
