Art Time!

After much prayer & for a variety of reasons, Eric and I have decided to stop Jonathan's speech therapy and we will be working with him from home while we look into a speech therapist closer to us.

That above info is background into this post- we actually had time for art this Wednesday! Yahoo! Before I share the pictures, let me first highly recommend the following resources from Artistic Pursuits that we are using in our homeschool:

- "The Way They See It" is a book to teach parents how young children learn art. It also gives you 18 lessons to do with your child. I am using it with everyone. (You can see the book in the below picture with Matthias.)

- "Artistic Pursuits Grades K-3" This is the other book that I am using for art instruction this year. Both books combine art instruction with appreciation- they incorporate artwork for you to talk/study within their curriculum.

To be honest, we have owned these books for awhile without a whole lot of use. Life was just busy (ha- like it isn't right now?) but I've made art a priority this year. Or at least "formal" instruction a priority. The children have always done art! I've known several families who use Artistic Pursuit's materials with great "success." Now, on to the pictures:

Did you notice the corn that Benjamin is drawing? This lesson focused on teaching the children to look for hidden things in artwork. We studied a picture (see Matthias' photo) and then the children drew/colored. I tried to focus their drawing on some kind of plant but they were free to do whatever. I was impressed to see Matthias draw the picture from the book... before he went on to draw a man riding a bug, a boy playing basketball & other things. :)

Jonathan was thrilled to be home!
